SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands is global campaign led by the WHO, which has brought patient safety through the focal point of hand hygiene mainstream attention. For over 10 years, this movement has gained international recognition in healthcare facilities in almost every country worldwide. It is arguably one of the most successful public health campaigns.
May 5th is the day hospitals and healthcare practitioners celebrate hand hygiene, and the theme for 2017 is "Fight antibiotic resistance - it's in your hands." Surgical patients are In danger of healthcare associated infections (HAI), in particular Surgical Site Infections (SSI), and it is a burden of every healthcare facility all over the world.
Therefore this year's slogan and campaign reinforces the need for healthcare workers, including surgeons, who are treating surgical patients, in order to tackle with this SSI, to practice hand hygiene care for their patients to be infection free from admission to discharge.
